Windsor Yards sits in the heart of Windsor connecting directly with both Windsor and Eton Central Station and Windsor’s main shopping street, Peascod Street.
In recent years, the nature of retailing has changed quite dramatically with the growth of on-line shopping impacting on convenience and comparison goods, this has had a dramatic impact on our high streets and shopping centres; with the growth of independent businesses, retailers transferring to on on-line format, reducing the floorspace they occupy, or going out of business altogether due to increasing occupational costs. This has led to vacant units and a reduction in footfall in traditional retail areas. This position has been exacerbated by almost 2 years of Covid lockdowns with even more people shopping online. In this regard, Windsor Yards is no exception as has been demonstrated in the significant change in the retailers represented within the scheme and the growing number of vacancies.
With this in mind, new proposals are being brought forward which include a new residential development, an extension to the existing Travelodge, a new hotel, a cinema, high quality public realm enhancements and the refurbishment of the multi-storey car park. These proposals are intended to complement the wider town centre and stimulate the day and evening economy.
With the exception of the Waitrose and Travelodge which opened in 2007, the rest of the Centre has changed little since it opened, so the opportunity exists to remodel the centre and introduce new uses that will enhance its vitality to respond to today’s much changed commercial and retail markets.
It is our intention to reposition the Centre to create a thriving retail and social arena for Windsor for the benefit of new and existing residents.
