The existing 113 room Travelodge was opened in 2007 and sits above four large ground floor retail units and a Waitrose at first floor.
A two-storey roof top extension is proposed which will increase the number of rooms to 157, comprising mainly family sized rooms.
The entrance foyer will be extended at ground floor level, which will increase the prominence of the hotel and help address anti-social behaviour issues around the existing building.
The ground floor retail units and the Waitrose stores will not be affected by the proposals.
